I know what you’re thinking… shaving your face sounds pretty scary! But we’re here to give you an in-depth Q&A post to settle any fears you may have about dermaplaning. This treatment is rapidly growing in popularity in the beauty industry for it’s amazing anti-aging benefits! Keep reading for a special treat at the bottom of this post… 🙂
What are the benefits of dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a manual form of exfoliation that takes off the top layer of dead skin, along with all of the vellus hair aka “peach fuzz”. It differs slightly from Microdermabrasion. While being a method of manual exfoliation, it does not remove the hair. The hair on your face can hold excess dirt, oils, and impurities which can clog your pores, so it’s best to remove the hair to avoid any breakouts. Dermaplaning is great for cell regeneration, so it really helps your at-home products to penetrate deep down into your skin. If you’re paying high prices for your skincare products, why would you want to let them sit on top of dead skin? Once all the “fuzz” and dead skin is gone, you’ll be amazed at how much your skin GLOWS. You’ll love the way your makeup applies flawlessly, and you wont need to use as much product, which will save you money in the long run!
Will the hair grow back thicker or darker?
Nope! Your body has two different kinds of hair, vellus and terminal. Vellus hair (“peach fuzz”) is the white hair that grows on your face, tops of your feet, upper forearms. It’s the thinnest and most fine hair on your body. It will remain the same color and texture no matter how many times it gets removed from your body. Terminal hair is what grows out of your head, eyebrows, arms and legs. Those are the hairs that are thicker and they will always remain that way. You really wont notice when your vellus hair grows back in because it is so fine. You wont have that stubble like you would if you had shaved your legs.
Who is a good candidate?
Basically anyone! If you feel that your skin is looking dull and tired and you’re in need of a pick-me-up, dermaplaning is for you! If you suffer from age spots, sun damage, post acne scars, or any other types of hyperpigmentation this treatment will help tremendously in the fading process. If you’re tired of seeing your “blonde mustache” in the rear view mirror every time the sunlight hits, it may be time to give dermaplaning a shot.
*If you are currently suffering from severe active acne, please avoid getting this treatment as it can spread bacteria and cause more breakouts. If you only have a couple blemishes here and there, they can be worked around. 🙂
How is the procedure done?
This sounds a lot scarier than it actually is. Dermaplaning is done with a surgical scalpel that has no guard on it. It’s basically the best straight razor shave you’ve ever had, lol! It’s not painful at all. It’s extremely soothing and relaxing. Your aesthetician will start by cleansing your face, making it dry and free of any dirt, products, or debris. You can pair dermaplaning with any type of peel, facial, or enzyme for deeper exfoliation, or you can get it as a standalone treatment. As a standalone, dermaplaning will take anywhere from 20-30 minutes. It’s super quick and easy!
How frequently can I dermaplane?
On average, your skin cells turn over every 28-45 days, depending on your age. Based on personal preference and depending on how much peach fuzz you have, it is best to do this treatment 4-6 weeks apart.
Okay, okay… enough with the Q&A. Let’s get you some savings! $$$
